After a lot of debate, and a ton of research over the last few months we’ve decided to move our manufacturing to China. It was a pretty hard decision, but once we saw how much it reduced our costs, it wasnt hard at all! It also saves us a lot work and effort. Now we just place the order for the boards and they show up on our doorstep. Way more time to party!

We spent the last few months touring factories over there to find the one with the right balance of cost, workplace related injuries, child labor, and quality issues. We think we nailed it! Below is a video from one of our tours.

We hope you guys like em and we’ll see you out on the mountain a lot more next year since we wont be designing and building boards, yea!

As Harmony Korine so eliquently put it in the documentary Beautiful Losers, “no one was showing me the types of things I wanted to see..” This is the same notion behind the conception of Owner Operator.

With a passion for snowboarding along side an appreciation for the natural beauty of nature the high-quality technical outwear was more about clean lines and withstanding style as opposed to loud graphics and heinous color-ways. As another company that has made New York’s Garment District home base, Owner Operator is bringing more fuel to the fire under the label “Made in America.” With design and production the owners are able to walk into the sewing facility any time to check in on production, help out with construction details, or run down the block to buy more thread. So next time you go shopping consider the impact of every dollar you spend. Consider what you are supporting with your purchases.

So I havent had to make any major purchases lately. Its a good thing for the wallet but almost makes buying american harder. Its the little things that are most likely made over seas and harder to find made here. Or so I thought.

The first thing I needed is pretty boring. A belt for work. Blah. I started looking around online a bit and saw two types of products. Small boutique brands that watned a fortune, or belst that looked like they only go with cowboy boots and spurs. Then I decided to look on Etsy and found Orion leather. They are based in Surfside Beach SC and make each belt themseles. They are all made from one piece of leather and no bonding is used so they wont fall part. Pretty reasonable at $35 considering you’d pay the same for a belt at the gap or J.Crew that was made in Bangladesh. Let me tell you this thing is legit too. Thick, heavy leather and the buckles seem way more legit stainless than the coated crap that corrodes on regular belts.

So as you may or may not know 3 of the 5 of us beaners are NEU alumni and recently we went to the frozen fenway game (where they put a hockey rink i fenway if you live under a rock). I found myself with no school gear that hadnt been ripped, stained, puked on or whatever else throughout my post collegiate years of trying to be fun after college. So I went down to the bookstore looking for something. Coincidentally the only thing I coudl find in the whole place that was made in the US was a hockey jersey. Great I thought, Id have to spend a fortune. Well really it was only $80 and most nice sweatshirts were $70 which is highway robber and a topic for another rant. So turns out the company that makes it actually has a pretty interesting story that can be found on their site. OT Sports was founed by two americans living in the Czech republic who started selling Jerseys to tons of hockey teams in the area. They then moved their operations to the US and make all their products here. Sick! So if you find yourself in need of a collegiate jersey they make a lot. If not its still a cool and I’m glad to see some businesses can still flourish making things here.
